CNY reflections... Part 2

On the 1st day of CNY, I went to visit relatives from my father’s side. I will only meet them once a year. I’m not really very close with them; I do not even know most of their names.

This time round, I paid more attention to their conversations instead of dreaming. Normally I will dream as there is nobody of my age, all the people that are supposed to be of my age group are mostly adults. My so called ‘nephew’ is only 2 years younger than me! Cool right?

After listening to their conversations between the adults I was dazed. Firstly, I found out that I had a cousin that was 20 years old! I did not learn of his existence till then! Wow. He did not know my existence as well >.<

Ok, back to the main point. My 20 year old cousin was a scholar in his JC, straight A’s. My other cousin is in NUS, in chemical engineering, the course which is on the same rank as doctors and lawyers. Yes, straights A’s are as well. 2 other of my cousins, both adults, are university-graduate, very successful in their career as well. The last and the oldest cousin is in his 30’s, work as a high ranked manger in Singapore’s Sports Association. Basically, he is the one who gave Mr Han his job.

So, every single one of them are very good in their studies and careers. Every one of them have the ability to excel in whatever they do, esp in their studies. It’s all in their blood; it is also in my blood. I can easily achieve good results. My PSLE has already shown that I can do well. It is whether I’m willing to put the effort in to achieve what I can achieve. Everybody has a hidden talent in us; it is already in our blood.

All it will take is for us to explore and find our hidden ability; put in the effort to achieve what we are capable of. It is already in us, all it takes is for us to put it to use and maximise our hidden potential.

Take Jarryl as an example. He is the latest person to join floorball and yet now he is the best. The ability to excel in sports is already in his blood. By putting in the extra effort to maximise his talent, he has became such a great player. Not only Jarryl, people like Joshua, Ryan, Crenshawn, Lander, Han Wei, Samuel, Isaac, Min Hao, Eugene and Derek, we all have the ability to excel. All it takes is for us to put in the effort to train, and then one day we can all be amazing players.

Talking about training, training is about improving ourselves. There is no point training: when SOME people drag shots still go over the goalpost after 2 years of training; when SOME people train impractical volleys, high balls and through balls that obviously does not work; when we can’t even shoot on target (ME).

Training is the process whereby we correct our mistakes and improve. Like Mr Han said ”We should only try to shoot hard only when we can shoot on target.” Training is about slowly improving our skills while correcting them at the same time. Joshua and I have to work harder on our shots I believe…

Next, training IMPRACTICAL STUFFS are useless. Stop wasting time and train stuffs that can actually benefit us. Ryan, nice volleys and through balls ah!

Other than training properly, we should also know how to adapt and apply what we been training in the game. If we have a wicked drag shot but we can’t pull it off the game, it is as good as nothing. We can better execute our moves if we have better balance and composure. Might wanna work on that.

Nites…
