I know that my blog is mainly about inspirational posts, trying to motivate all my readers to do well in all aspects in their lives. I'm not sure whether it helped but I tried. Some may have liked it and some may not. Anyway, this post shall be my last inspirational post.
I knew all the while I wrote alot on life principles and values, but I doubt any of them got into your brains. This post will be different, because this time, it wouldn't be plainly words alone, it's about my life. Although this post may be abit personal, but I'm willing to let my readers into my world for once, if I'm able to motivate you for the last time.
Life is great but reality is harsh.
I believe by now all my readers should already be familiar with this phrase. Indeed, life is great. Think about all the luxuries you are having now. Computers, hand phones, your very own bedroom. These are all the little things that many other children in other countries might not be able have. But all these luxuries come with a price, money is needed in order for you to obtain them. You should know by now, in such a competitive society where meritocracy is present, only the hardworking and talented people will be able to enjoy such luxuries. Luxuries and glory which all people yearn for day and night. Only the successful people can walk with their heads up as commoners stand from a distance and watch in awe. I don't want to be a loser.
Life is short, live without regrets.
I want to be successful, I want to be a winner. I want to be admired and not to admire people. I want to be the best in all aspects of my life. I don't want to wait till I'm old and start regretting why I did not work harder when I was younger. It will be too late then.
I decided. It's time i make a change to my life. The overseas immersion programme started me thinking about my current life. Captain, senior prefect, combined school player. On the surface, it may look good, it may seem that my life right now is perfect, having almost everything that I want. But I asked myself " Is that all that I want?"
You may say that I'm greedy, you may say that I should cherish what I already have, but isn't life all about progressing to the next level in that aspect of our lives? It is the same as gaming, we all want to level up, this applies for our lives as well. Tell me, who doesn't want to be the best in all aspects of their lives?
I worked hard to achieve what I am today. I'm not going to stop here. I'm going to ace every single aspect of my life. I want to be successful, I want to be a winner.
All my previous posts about my new resolution is all crap. This time round will be the real one, the one that I will carry out.
The book " Excel in sports and studies" which I borrowed from Ryan gave me the main guideline of how I should go about working on my resolution.
The very 1st step is to know yourself. Know your weakness and strengths. Be confident of your ability in your area of strength and work on your weakness. I took 20 minutes for me to list 20 strength and weakness I got. In this period, I reflected very deeply and found out that I'm far from what I hope to achieve in the future.
Next, setting goals.
Only by visualising our future, then can we progress towards it...
My ambition is very simple, and that is to ace my studies and sports. what I hope to achieve is not impossible, it's whether I want to put in the hard work.
In the long term, I wish to get into NUS university with straight A's for my 'A' level and to be a national floorballer.
In the intermediate term, I aim to get straight A's for my 'O' levels and emerge as the best player in combined schools.
In the short term, my aim is to get straight A's for my EOY and to be the best floorballer in Catholic High.
All of these, will be what I will be aiming for in the future. I will work towards it. I believe I can do it. I want to be a successful person.
In order for me to achieve all of this without a plan in mind is impossible. I have to know what I'm doing.
Keeping the 3 'P's in mind. Plan, prioritise, put into action.
Planning. In order for the task to be done quickly and efficiently, planning should never be compromised. I have to plan what I'm doing for this month, this week, today, the next hour and for the next couple of minutes as well. Only through planning then will time and effort be saved. I have to be clear of what I'm doing. Time wait for no man. We all have 24 hours, how efficient a person can be all depends on his planning and organising.
Prioritise. At all times, we have to know what is important and what is urgent. Urgent things should be done asap, such as visiting the toilet or helping your parents with some housework. Important things are such as your homework and your training. Do the urgent things first and quickly go back and continue with your important things. Quickly visit the toilet and resume training. Hurry finish your housework and get on with your studying.
Other then that, we should know when to play and relax, and when to work hard and focus. We should know how to prioritise our tasks in order for us to complete what we are suppose to do. Without prioritising, our lives will be in a mess.
Putting into action. Even if we plan very well and finish prioritising our tasks, if we don't carry it out it will be as good as nothing. Do it! A plan without action is just a dream. Stop dreaming and start working. And when we are doing a task, we should always keep in mind what is the purpose of it and focus and not be distracted.
In order for us to carry out these 3 'P's, it is important to note that only a healthy and fit person is able to carry out this 3 'P's. After I returned from abroad, I fell ill for closely to a week. I could not train or study. Furthermore, falling ill isn't something that you will enjoy. It is best to stay healthy and fit.
1) Have a healthy diet. From now on, I'm going to cut down on junk food and soft drinks if possible. I will also drink more water. It is too late to drink water if you are feeling thirsty. Drink water regularly. A good way to check if you drank enough is to check the colour of your urine. It should not be yellowish, it should colourless.
2) Rest. have enough rest time. Sleep at least 8 hours a day. It will be best to sleep before 11pm as that is the time our cells start remaking. Have short naps if you are tired, around 15-20 minutes will do, cause if the nap is too long, it will make you even more tired.
3) Train properly. Stretch and warm up before every training to prevent injuries and remember to warm down after every training session or it will take you longer to recover from fatigue.
Having goals, coming up with a plan to achieve these goals, maintaining a healthy body to work towards these goals, one other important factor is the attitude.
Our attitude should always be positive. It is okay to feel sad but it is not acceptable to feel negative. Being sad is different from being negative. No matter how sad you may feel, you should not feel negative. Always keep a positive outlook.
Things might not look like what it is if you look at it again. Sometimes it is always good to look at things from a different angle cause things might not be as complicated as it looks.
-Failure. There will definitely be failures in our journey towards success. What we should do is to take failure as a stepping stone towards success. Take it as a lesson which teaches us not to commit the same mistake again instead of viewing it as a failure.
-Fear. Never let fear affect your mindset. Fear does nothing good to you other then scaring you and affecting your performance. Don't be nervous for your exams, don't be nervous before the game. Be confident of your ability, remain calm. It will be better this way.
-Know what you are doing at all times. Know the purpose of the task and do it with the right attitude. When you are running, know that you are training your endurance and stamina, so never slow down or stop, because it will only destroy your purpose of the training. When you are studying, know that doing your work is also a from of revising, take homework as revision instead of viewing them as workloads. Remember, the future is in your hands, you decide how you want it to be, you decide what you want to do.
The top '10' things to change.
1) Self control, do not be too easily affected by your peers.
2) Self discipline, do what is right rather than what is tempting.
3) Study harder. Pay more attention in class and practise more.
4) Change my attitude towards my parents and peers. Be less rebellious and kp.
5) Determination. Don't just dream, do it and don't give up so easily.
6) Don't be distracted and affected by people too much.
7) Learn to save $, ain't easy to earn them.
8) Cut down on junk food and soft drinks. Maintain a healthy diet.
9) Work on my floorball basics first before proceeding on to other aspects.
10) Have confidence with the ball, remain calm.
Reflection:
I know that this path that I'm going to take will not be an easy one. But if something can be so easily achieved what will be the point in getting it? Along the way, there will bound to be obstacles and distractions to stop me, but I believe I can overcome all of them and eventually reach my final goal. Along this journey, may I learn and change myself into a better person, cutting down on my flaws and have more strengths as a person. I believe that I have the determination and will-power to last through this whole journey, I must succeed. I know that I may need to give up on certain leisure time and entertainment but I'm willing to give up on all of these in order to achieve what I set out to achieve. I want to enjoy the glorious days in primary school where I aced my studies and sports. I want to be a winner. i want people to look up on me. I want to be the best in all aspects of my life. Shall this determination path me my way to success. Nobody wants to be a loser, that person shall not be me. I had enough of being brought down by my parents because of my poor results. I want to show them that I can do it, I want to show them that my floorball skills are worthy of their attention. No matter how tired I may be, how lousy I can feel at that moment, I will not give up. It is time I show my ability to everyone... Cose it's now or never...
~Darrell.
My dear readers, the future is in your hands. You decide what your future becomes. All I can do is to motivate you, the rest is all up to you. It's now or never.
It's time you wake up.
It's time you show what you are capable of to everybody.
It's showtime.
